The Statistics

Current sexual health education in Garfield County schools
  • Bits and pieces of sexual health information in classes
  • youth seeking answers for individual concerns from school staff
  • short lectures at school health fairs
  • occasional presentations from Planned Parenthood staff.
In Colorado, only 20% of schools (combined middle and high schools) reported that their lead health education teacher received professional development on HIV in the last 2 years.  Only 29% received professional development on human sexuality.
